Stamps.com combines postage printing, shipping labels, carrier-rate comparison, pickups, address tools, tracking, and reporting in one subscription. It can remove repeated post-office trips and make daily shipping more consistent, but it is not automatically the cheapest choice for every business.
The key question is whether the workflow savings and carrier discounts justify a recurring software fee. A company mailing documents, shipping customer orders, or managing postage across employees may see clear value. An occasional shipper may be better served by free carrier tools.
Quick verdict
Stamps.com is a good fit for small businesses that mail or ship often enough to benefit from one repeatable workstation, discounted rates, pickup scheduling, address verification, and centralized tracking. Professional is the most practical tier for businesses that need unlimited labels, international shipping, batch workflows, or live support.
Basic is much more limited than its name suggests: it includes one user, up to 25 stamps, and up to 10 shipping labels per month. That can work for a light-mail office, but overage fees make it a poor tier for unpredictable shipping volume.
Best for: offices and small merchants with recurring mail or package volume.
Think twice if: you ship only occasionally, already have a free workflow that works, or cannot estimate monthly label volume.
Stamps.com pricing and limits
Stamps.com’s public pricing page listed these plans when checked on August 28, 2026:
- Basic: $14.99 per month for one user, up to 25 stamps, and up to 10 shipping labels.
- Professional: $29.99 per month for three users, unlimited stamps and shipping labels, Certified and Registered Mail support, batch printing, international shipping, tracking notifications, reports, and live chat and phone support.
- Multi-Location: $49.99 per month, including ten users per location and two locations, plus permissions, cross-location reporting, and an enterprise account team.
Postage, carrier charges, insurance, supplies, and optional services are separate from the subscription. Stamps.com advertises a 30-day trial, but the account converts to paid service according to the selected or default offer unless it is canceled.
What Stamps.com does well
One workspace covers routine mail and packages
The platform can print stamps, envelopes, Certified Mail forms, return labels, and package labels. It also centralizes tracking and shipment history. That is useful when a business sends a mix of invoices, documents, returns, samples, and ecommerce orders.
Carrier comparison can improve each shipping decision
Stamps.com provides access to services from carriers including USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, and GlobalPost, depending on the shipment and plan. Comparing live options can help a shipper balance price, delivery time, tracking, and destination instead of defaulting to one carrier for every package.
Discount claims should not be treated as guaranteed savings on every shipment. Actual cost depends on dimensions, weight, zone, service, surcharges, and the rate available for that package.
Pickups reduce trips and interruptions
Users can schedule eligible carrier pickups through the platform. For an owner who currently drives to a retail counter several times a week, time savings may justify more of the subscription than the postage discount itself.
Professional supports a real office workflow
Professional adds unlimited printing, batch features, international shipping, notification emails, reporting, and live support. It is the more credible starting point for a business shipping every day or sharing the account among employees.
Reporting helps control postage spend
Print history, analytics, and cost or reference codes can make shipping costs easier to assign to customers, departments, or order groups. This matters when postage is a billable expense or when several employees use the same account.
Limitations and costs to watch
Basic has low monthly limits
Ten shipping labels per month leaves little room for a busy week. Stamps.com’s help center says accounts can continue printing after a limit, but overage charges may apply. Its current documentation lists a shipping-label overage of 15% of label cost, with a $2 minimum and $8 maximum per label, and a stamp overage of 50% of stamp cost with a $0.35 minimum.
Those charges can erase the apparent savings of staying on Basic. If volume regularly approaches the cap, compare the Professional fee before paying overages.
The subscription is not postage
The monthly charge pays for software and plan access. It does not replace the cost of postage or carrier service. Include both categories when calculating savings.
Free alternatives may be sufficient
USPS Click-N-Ship and individual carrier sites can handle basic labels without a separate multi-carrier subscription. A marketplace may also provide adequate label purchasing for orders placed on that marketplace. Stamps.com needs to save time, reduce rates, or improve control beyond what those tools already provide.
Trial conversion deserves attention
Record the trial end date and cancellation steps on the day you sign up. Test the workflow early enough to decide before billing begins.
Which plan fits your business?
Choose Basic if one person sends fewer than ten packages and 25 stamped pieces in a predictable month and does not need batch workflows, international shipping, or live support.
Choose Professional if you ship frequently, need unlimited labels, use Certified or Registered Mail, send internationally, want reporting, or need multiple users.
Choose Multi-Location when the business needs permissions, shared control, and reporting across more than one office or mailroom.
A simple break-even test
Estimate these four values for a normal month:
- The subscription fee for the required plan.
- Expected carrier savings compared with the rates you pay today.
- Staff time saved by avoiding trips, retyping addresses, and checking several carrier sites.
- Any overage, supply, insurance, pickup, or add-on costs.
Then compare the subscription and extra costs with the measurable rate and labor savings. Use conservative numbers. A claimed maximum discount is not an average discount.
A seven-day trial checklist
- Import or create frequently used addresses.
- Price several real shipments against your current workflow.
- Print one stamp, one package label, and one return label.
- Test the printer and label stock you plan to use.
- Schedule an eligible pickup.
- Confirm tracking notifications and shipment history.
- Create users and permissions if employees share the process.
- Review reports or cost codes using actual transactions.
- Calculate the complete monthly cost at expected volume.
- Decide whether to keep or cancel before the trial converts.
Is Stamps.com worth it?
Stamps.com is worth considering when shipping is a recurring operating process rather than an occasional errand. The strongest case is a business that can save employee time, compare carriers, schedule pickups, and centralize records.
Basic can work for very light, predictable usage, but its caps demand careful attention. Professional is likely the better fit for an active small business because it removes label limits and adds the tools that make a paid shipping platform meaningfully different from free carrier sites.
